Mr. Peter David McCabe, the son of the late Edward McCabe and Alice Labonte, born on July 24, 1935, in Manhattan, New York Although he attended public schools in both New York and Michigan, he eventually graduated from Hard Knox School. As a young man, Peter served his country with honor as a third-class pilot in the United States Air Force. Peter also worked his entire life as a practicing Catholic, attending weekly mass at St. Therese in Morrisville, North Carolina, until his death.
On August 20, 1966, he was united in the sacred marriage of the love of his life, Theresa Bridget Comer. This union has blessed them with 54 years of love and four beloved children. Teresa beat him to death on January 9, 2020 but she will remain in his heart forever.
Despite his humble beginnings, Peter was a true Renaissance man and was the living embodiment of the saying “never met a stranger” as he always had the perfect humor ready for old friends and new friends alike. He was an active member of many local bridge clubs and as an avid golfer, he enjoyed various courses in the Lake Norman area. His golf career capped with a single hole on July 22, 2019. He was an accomplished author—he wrote a bridge tutorial in the ’80s, published a book of jokes himself in 2017 and was writing his third book—his memoir—until his death. After completing his hobbies, Peter also enjoyed painting in his sunroom, playing bocce ball with local friends, cheering for his beloved Detroit Lions and Detroit Tigers and spending time with his family – his biggest fun. Whether it’s a simple laugh, a captivating story, a helping hand when needed or through his unconditional love, Peter’s light and influence will remain forever in those who knew him.
