With freezing temperatures across the United States, it’s pretty surprising that the “cool girl” makeup trend has taken over TikTok.
But I haven’t seen many women with my own skin tone try it, so I decided to test the look on darker skin tones.

The trend has definitely kicked off, with #ColdGirlMakeup amassing more than 52.5 million views on TikTok so far.
The goal is for you to look a little flushed with a hint of sparkle on your face, like you just skated and looked cool.
The best part is that the essentials you need to get the look are already in your beauty bag.
Made famous by TikTok author and influencer Zoe Kim Kenealy, 26, the trend has been inspired by gorgeous girls like Emily Ratajkowski and Kylie Jenner.

Though Kenealy may have started it, creators like Jessica Zhang, 20, have kept the momentum going.
Her TikTok tutorial on achieving that cool girl glow has received nearly four million views on social media.
I followed Zhang’s tutorial and put her tips into practice when doing a make-up trial.
Aside from your usual foundation, all you need are three essential products to pull it together, a soft pink blush, a silver highlighter, and a berry lip color.
Before trying the viral makeup trend, I applied a base layer of It Cosmetics CC Cream Foundation, $44, and LA Girl Pro Concealer, $3.99.
The first step is to apply a soft pink blush to your cheeks, the tips of your nose, and all over your lips.
I used the soft pink shade in Beauty Creations Cosmetics Choose Happy Blush Duo Palette, $6, and applied a heavy layer to even out the look.
When I was applying the blush in the first step, I felt like it gave off Casper vibes and washed me out instead of bringing a rosy glow to my cheeks.

The second step is to apply a raspberry lip color to the center of your lips and blend it gently with your finger.
I used NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Prague, $6.50, and it did not give the desired effect.
I may have used the wrong shade, but after contouring a bit with my finger, it looked like I was a vampire who just sucked someone’s blood.
Last but not least, the third step was my favorite and easiest.
Fenty Beauty softly brushed on Rihanna Diamond Bomb All-Over Diamond Veil, $40, in the shade How Many Carats?! For a pure platinum luster.

Silver highlighter popped up on the tip of my nose, on the inner corners of my eyes, and along my cheekbones.
To intensify the look, I applied a thin layer of glow product along my waterline.
I can see why this Cold Girl Makeup look would be a hit, but I wasn’t a fan of it.
A friend of mine later suggested layering a setting powder over her pink blush, and if I tried it again, I’d add that step.
It’s a look I would use more for a winter formal event, ski wear, or holiday outfit.

I have red and gold undertones, so I think this look would look great on someone with more blue undertones.
I truly believe that if you find the right products for your skin tone, anyone can look good in this look.
