JT, one of two members of City Girls, was spotted playing her glamorous self in the Mugler Fall/Winter 2023 show during Paris Haute Couture Week. Created by makeup artist Sophia Sinnott, the gradient lip is one of the first experimental looks we’ve seen the rapper sport, but we’re hoping it won’t be the last.
For decades, black and brown women have paired shades of brown lipstick with a thick gloss to accentuate their lips. Today, the same ode to beauty exists but with more artistic ideas leaving our minds and entering the physical. As opposed to the traditional brown liner method that fills in the entire lip contour in one swipe, Sinot outlined JT’s packaging with a black-brown lip liner shade and then swiped a darker color (maybe black eye shadow) down the center of JT’s upper and lower lip to create a sharp, diffused ombre effect. Ideal. Quite reminiscent of the fashion looks that were presented at the show itself, the curvy lip structure is mysterious and tender at the same time.
Bold lips are perfect to try during the winter, and if you’re anything like me, you don’t need to sit front row at a fashion show to rock them (a special night out or even an evening trip to the grocery store is fine). Check out how to recreate the look in TikTok below. Don’t forget to tag @hypebaebeauty on Instagram for a chance to be featured.
