How to Fix Dota 2 Searching for Game Coordinator - Servers Down?

Posted on September 5, 2022

Dota 2 is a hugely popular (and addictive) MOBA from Valve with a massive audience of players and loyal fans. Although it often features a “love-hate” relationship, the wait in Dota 2 is usually a highlight for many players.

However, matchmaking may not always be possible because Dota 2 servers are down or the Game Coordinator service is not responding. Unfortunately, this problem is not uncommon either.

But don’t worry because this guide explains everything you can do to fix the dreaded “Finding Game Coordinator” error in Dota 2. We have briefly described the causes of this problem and some workable solutions.

How to fix search for game coordinator in Dota 2

Gamers often get frustrated when they get the “Looking for Game Coordinator” error in Dota 2. The most common cause of the problem is related to game servers crashing due to Dota 2 patch update or hotfix rollout.

In this regard, the first thing to check before proceeding is whether Dota 2 servers are down. You can do this by going to the Steam status page; SteamDB has an unofficial tracker, which you can also use to monitor many other Steam server states.

You can also ask your friends if they are facing similar issues to check if the Dota 2 game console is just broken for you or it is a system issue. Assuming the servers are working and you are still getting Searching For Game Coordinator in Dota 2 issue, the following issue might be related to your internet connection or the game client.

Try restarting Dota 2 (or better yet, restarting Steam completely). You may also want to try restarting your router or computer. Some other sites suggest tweaking your DNS and firewall settings, but we don’t recommend it, especially if the Dota 2 game format has worked well in the past.

If you’re still having trouble, try opening a bot lobby or training tutorial – this method has personally worked for me in the past. However, if past experiences prove helpful, the best way to fix Searching For Game Coordinator error in Dota 2 is simply by waiting.
