If you want to block ads on iPhone, we don’t blame you. They’re pretty annoying at the best of times, getting in the way of watching your favorite content on a mobile screen that’s already pushed for space.
It’s annoying that the iPhone’s built-in browser, Safari, only comes with a popup blocker and not an ad blocker. Fortunately, there is still a way you can block ads on iPhone without purchasing a third-party ad blocker, and that comes in the form of the Opera browser.
Opera is a free-to-download browser that, in my eyes at least, is somewhat of a silent hero as many people still don’t seem to know it exists. I’ve been using Opera on my desktops for years now and absolutely love it.
So why Opera? It’s streamlined, reliable, beautiful, and offers some really cool built-in features for desktop users, including social and messaging app extensions by default, a free VPN, and, as you might have guessed, a popup and ad blocker.
There is also a crypto wallet feature, as well as a gaming version of the browser on PC and mobile called Opera GX. It’s no surprise that we put the Opera browser on our list of the best ad blockers.
Now, the mobile version of Opera doesn’t have the social add-ons (which wouldn’t really make sense on a smartphone anyway). Unfortunately, it also doesn’t feature a free VPN. However, it does feature an ad blocker, allowing you to browse without intrusive ads for free. When you try Opera, you might also find that you absolutely love it, so come up with a shiny new browser to show off to your friends and look out of place.
If all of this sounds good to you, here’s how to block ads on iPhone for free using Opera.
How to block ads on iPhone for free using the Opera browser
1. Swipe down on your home screen to open search and Type “Opera browser”. then Tap the Get icon or the iCloud icon If you have already downloaded it in the past. Download the app.
2. Open the Opera browser. If this is your first time using Opera, Click Continue On the first welcome screen, next Click Next To consent to the data collection notice. On the next screen, Switch to block ads And Click Start Browsing. And that’s it.
NB: You can change your data collection preferences in the privacy consent section of your browser settings later. I advise you to do this to limit the data that Opera collects and uses.
3. If this is not your first time using Opera, or if you want to change your ad blocking settings, Click on the three lines icon at the bottom left of the screen, then Click on Settings.
4. Click on Ad Blocking.
5. Switch to “Block Ads”.
