The other day, a friend asked the following question on Facebook: Where can I find a place in Morrisville to hold an office Christmas party? I smiled because I knew the perfect place. As I responded to her, I thought that you all might like to be let in on one of the Triangle’s best kept secrets as well.
The perfect place? RDU, of course! Our General Aviation Terminal is a beautiful facility that opened in 2003 to handle the needs of private and charter pilots, as well as their passengers. It’s located near the airfield with huge glass windows and a balcony for an up close and personal view of the runways and the general aviation ramp.
For years, the General Aviation Terminal has been a popular place for special events. In fact, it’s even hosted a high school prom! The terminal can accommodate events from 40 to 448 people. Here’s a sampling of events we’ve had at RDU:
- Holiday parties
- Corporate luncheons
- Wedding receptions
- Bridal showers
- Legal meetings
- Bar/bat mitzvahs
My friend was looking for a place to host an elegant evening affair. No worries, our in house caterer, which is the exclusive provider for the venue, has a great menu that’s adaptable to an informal luncheon or hors d’oeuvres only to a grand gala with carving stations. They have beer and wine permits, and you can bring in musicians or the DJ of your choosing.
We’re talking about a venue at the airport, so the top two questions most people have are:
- Is it easy to get to?
- Do I have to pay for parking?
The General Aviation Terminal is located on the north side of the airport, away from the passenger terminals. You can get to it easily. View a map of General Aviation
Two small lots on either side of the General Aviation Terminal allow you free parking for four hours. For the largest of events, we have a special events lot that we’ll open for you free of charge directly across the street. And we should point out, there’s no security checkpoint to access the terminal.
